Border Patrol agent indicted for shooting Mexican teen
A Border Patrol agent accused of shooting a teenager in Nogales, Sonora through the international border fence was arraigned on a charge of second-degree murder October 9, 2015 at the federal courthouse in Tucson. Volunteers triple desert area where they offer lifesaving aid
Over the last year, desert-aid volunteers have expanded the scope of No More Deaths’s humanitarian work. In the Arivaca area, we cover a wider radius than ever. Working from Byrd Camp, our home base since 2004, we stock water drops in an eight-hundred-square-mile zone that ranges from rugged mountains to flat, dry cholla thickets. A great holiday gift for No More Deaths allies
In September 2014, No More Deaths volunteers said farewell to longtime volunteer and supporter Cyril Barrett. Chances are if you volunteered with No More Deaths in 2006–2008 you met and worked alongside Cyril, who was instrumental in building No More Deaths’s desert work and Agua Prieta work. Rosa Robles leaves sanctuary for new life without fear
A press conference exploded into a celebration November 11 at Southside Presbyterian Church in Tucson, as Rosa Robles Loreto and her family entered the sanctuary. Cameras clicked and flashed while parishioners and supporters applauded and chanted “Rosa! Rosa!” Beaming boys in baseball uniforms, members of Rosa’s son José Emiliano’s team, followed the family into the crowded room. Application information for the spring volunteer program is now posted! Please review it and see if you are interested in participating. Applications from groups of one to six people are being accepted now through January 24 for one-week placements between March 5 and 26.
November update/appeal
On November 2, people throughout the Americas celebrated Day of the Dead, remembering their loved ones. In Tucson, another annual commemoration of those who have passed, the All Souls Procession, is a community mass-participation event that borrows heavily from the Day of the Dead tradition. As they do every year, No More Deaths volunteers and supporters will be marching in the Procession this Sunday specifically to memorialize those who lost their lives crossing the Arizona desert this year.
