The recent CBP data measures “enforcement outcomes, not migration flows,” Mónica Ruiz House, a spokesperson for No More Deaths/No Más Muertes, said in a written statement regarding the recent CBP data.
“Decades of border militarization have shown that intensified enforcement pushes migrants to cross through increasingly remote and dangerous areas to avoid detection,” Ruiz House said. “As a result, official apprehensions may decline even as crossings persist and become less visible in official datasets like this one.”
