We add each session to the online application as soon as we are ready to begin taking applications for it. Please wait to apply for your desired session until it is included as an option in the application.

Please note that this volunteer opportunity involves a one-month or longer commitment. You will need to commit to stay for the entire session or sessions that you are accepted for.

Trainings are offered on the first Sunday of every month. New volunteers must arrive in Tucson by this date for training, after which they begin volunteering. The schedule each week will vary based on the capacity of our long-term volunteers, and we ask that new volunteers be prepared to be flexible and plug in as needed: volunteers will move between the desert camp in Arivaca, desert-aid trips to Ajo and other areas, supporting other volunteer projects based in Tucson, and taking breaks at the volunteer house in Tucson. Transportation from camp to Tucson and volunteer housing in Tucson will be provided.

For important further details and requirements, see the general information that applies to all the volunteer programs.

Steps for applying to the program

  1. Review all of the information above, including the general program information for desert-aid volunteers.
  2. By the application deadline, submit the following:
  3. Wait to hear back from the volunteer coordinator. We get a high volume of applications and can only accept four new volunteers during this time. We will do our best to accommodate everyone, but unfortunately cannot accept everyone. A couple days to a week after the session deadline, you will hear from us about whether you’ve been confirmed to the program or not.

Submitting your application deposit

Upon submitting an application to volunteer, you will receive an email invoice from No More Deaths via Square. Please check your inbox and send payment by the due date. If you are unable to pay via credit or debit card online, please notify the volunteer coordinator and send a check for $50 to:

No More Deaths
ATTN: Volunteer Coordinator
P.O. Box 40782
Tucson, AZ 85717

Please make the check out to “UUCT–No More Deaths” and write “Deposit—DAVP” and your name on the memo line.

The deposit will be applied toward the volunteer fee, and the balance is to be paid once you arrive in Tucson. The deposit represents your commitment to volunteer if accepted and placed. We need this commitment from you to ensure that we fill each volunteer slot and run volunteer programs at our full capacity.

If we are unable to accept and place you, the deposit will be refunded to you in full. However, if you cancel after we have confirmed your volunteer placement, the $50 deposit will not be refunded.
