Sunday, 13 May 2012 12:24

Tucson_10-400Why did a mom picking up her kids from school get put in removal proceedings? Despite the promise the Obama administration made in June 2011 to protect families and communities from being torn apart as a routine part of ICE practices, it is clear there is a disconnect between what is happening in our communities and what is being talked about in Washington.

Bring justice home! Print E-mail
Thursday, 26 April 2012 13:03

A year ago this March, Carlos Reynaldo Lamadrid Guerrero, a U.S. citizen, was shot and killed by the U.S. Border Patrol near Douglas, Arizona. His family has still received no answers for his senseless death. Sadly, stories like Carlos’s are all too common. No More Deaths and partners document human rights violations by Border Patrol every day, like the ones captured in our 2011 report, Culture of Cruelty: Abuse and Impunity in Border Patrol Short-Term Custody.

Help end the culture of cruelty Print E-mail
Wednesday, 05 October 2011 09:16
Imagine this: you have been detained for deportation. You are dehydrated, but are denied adequate water. You are famished, but are given only crackers as the hours stretch into days. Your cell is overcrowded, dirty, and extremely hot. You need your medication, but it has been taken from you. You are separated from your spouse and have no idea where they are. You are forced to sign papers you do not fully understand, and arrive in an unfamiliar city in the dead of night, without your identification, your money, your cell phone, or your other personal belongings.

Recently thousands of people from throughout the U.S. put Janet Napolitano on notice that concerned residents will continue to try to transform the Department of Homeland Security's practices of dangerous deportations including deportations into cartel strongholds. We at No More Deaths continue to monitor deportation practices and are attempting to support individuals who contact us with stories of abuse and threats.

UPDATE: Detained immigrants still in mortal danger Print E-mail
Thursday, 23 June 2011 00:36

Two weeks ago, we read with horror the letters from 21 men held in the Torrance County Detention Facility, fearing kidnapping and death if deported on the Mexican border and particularly on the part that borders Texas. These men are some of the hundreds of “Streamlined” Mexicans who are arrested, prosecuted and sentenced in Arizona on immigration charges every week. Their initiative and call for support sparked the outrage of thousands here in the U.S. and set in motion a national campaign to end dangerous deportation practices taking place daily.

This campaign continues. ICE has explicitly refused to act. Please call (202) 282-8495 and leave a message for Janet Napolitano: “Where deportation isn’t safe, it isn’t an option.”
